About Online Compression
M5 Online compression utility ver 1.0.1 provides online-mechanism to compare different compression algorithms with our pre-processing steps. You have two options available in current version:
  • 1. Performs selective compression on input file. You can choose the type of compression and type of pre-processing required to be performed on the file. Standard compression algorithms are currently available on the server and we are looking forward to add some more like YBS, PPMOSTR and PPMd.

  • 2. Generates statistics and bar chart for all the compression (algorithms)methods present on the server. The statistics is on the file selected by the user. This option is mainly used for the comparision of different compression algorithms present on the server. This option is used to compare the performance of different compression algorithm with pre-processing steps on input files.
The compression process involves pre-processing input file to improve "context" information in the file. Improved context will help in achieving better compression by back-end algorithms. To learn more about how this is done check out paper LIPT : A Lossless Text Transform to Improve Compression. - Fauzia S. Awan and Amar Mukherjee.
